Why we’re here

The Good News of Jesus is for all people, and for all generations!

Our church was probably started in a private home around the beginning of the 1830’s. The chapel was built in 1834 by a generous local Quaker who wanted to help the church minister to the local youth—who apparently were a rowdy and debauched lot! The church at the time was unable to buy the building, only raising half the sum required, so he donated it!

Now, more than 175 years later, we are still bringing the Good News of Jesus to the people of Harefield.

What Good News?

—the news that God is a God of love!

God knows that because we have free will, we cannot live a perfect life. So he sent Jesus to bring us back into relationship with him. Jesus was born and lived just like any one of us, but he lived a perfect life. He taught people about God. He brought healing and freedom to many, but the leaders of his day decided to have him killed. But through his death, Jesus dealt with all the wrongs of the world and made it possible for everyone to call God their father. Because he was the Son of God, Jesus did not stay dead. Easter reminds us that he is alive today!

Anyone, no matter what they have done, can ask Jesus into their lives and be changed forever. He promised that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life—a life that is changed for the better right now. There is nothing to pay, no tests or examinations, no-one saying you are not good enough. It is a free gift, a life-changing gift. It is very good news!
